Title:Rohan G. Williamson discusses Georgetown’s innovation and agility

Rohan Williamson

How has Georgetown prepared to offer flexible, adaptive, and engaging courses in fall semester 2020? “It’s more than just a technology investment—it’s an innovation investment,” says Rohan G. Williamson, vice provost for education and professor of finance.

On the technology front, CNDLS, UIS, and the Gelardin New Media Center have offered workshops on how to use Canvas, Zoom, Panopto, Voicethread, and more to adapt courses for fall semester 2020. “Georgetown faculty have taken on the challenge,” Williamson says.

On the pedagogical front, “Georgetown has been investing in this type of learning for about 20 years now,” Williamson says. Georgetown has offered professors guidance on accommodations and accessibility, community in the remote classroom, engaging students in a remote course, and asynchronous engagement when students are overseas for study, work, service, or research.

Overall, in order to adapt to the shifting conditions of the pandemic, “We just have to be agile,” Williamson says. Watch the video interview with Williamson to learn more.
