David Fajgenbaum (NHS’07), Hunting for Cures for Castleman Disease and COVID-19

Dr. David Fajgenbaum (NHS’07) was once a pre-med student at Georgetown and a quarterback for the Hoya football team. Now, he is a medical researcher and social entrepreneur in search of treatments and cures for multiple diseases, including COVID-19.

Fajgenbaum, an assistant professor of medicine in the Translational Medicine and Human Genetics Division at the University of Pennsylvania, co-founded the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network (CDCN) nonprofit in 2012 after being diagnosed with the rare condition.

Today, his work also focuses on gathering data on drugs used in treating COVID-19. The collected data is “open source”—available to physicians, researchers, and the general public.
