Title:A Commitment to Scholarships for International Students

In order to enrich classroom discussion and community experiences, Georgetown is deepening its commitment to providing scholarships to deserving students from around the world. Below are highlights of recent gifts in support of international scholarships:

• Members of the Georgetown Club of Panama have created the Bridge of the Americas Endowed Scholarship Fund to provide financial aid to local students. More than 60 donors—including alumni, parents, and friends—made gifts ranging from $500 to $125,000, quickly bringing the fund’s total to almost $1.15 million in commitments.
• The Goei Family Endowed Scholarship Fund was created with a $2 million gift from brothers Danton (F’92) and Dexter (F’93) Goei. It will fund scholarships for international students in the School of Foreign Service.
• Anonymous Georgetown parents made a gift of $1.25 million for international scholarships.
• Mrs. Suad Juffali, a Georgetown friend and member of the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies Board of Advisers, made a gift of $1 million to establish the Suad Husseini Juffali Endowed Graduate Scholarship Fund, supporting the Master of Arab Studies Program in the School of Foreign Service.
• An anonymous Georgetown family made a gift of $1 million in support of scholarships, with a preference for international students.
• Simone and Ajay Arora (Parents’15) made a $1 million gift to establish the D’Decor Home Fabrics Current Use Scholarship Fund at the McDonough School of Business, which will provide merit-based scholarships to MBA students, with a preference for those who are residents of India.
• The Santa Maria Endowed Scholarship Fund was established with a $1 million anonymous gift in support of the 1789 Scholarship Imperative, with a preference for students who are residents of Greece.
• Timothy B. Flynn (F’90) made a $1 million gift to support the Sarah McFlynn (C’04) Endowed Scholarship Fund. The fund, created in memory of his sister, provides undergraduate scholarships, with a preference for international students. 
• Harriet and C.C. Tung (Parents’93, ’97) made a gift of $1 million to establish the Harriet and C.C. Tung Family Endowed Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for graduate students enrolled in the School of Foreign Service, with preference for students enrolled in the M.A. in Asian Studies program who are residents of countries located in East Asia and graduates of Fudan, Zhejiang, Beijing, or Quinghua Universities.
• The McGurn family made a $1 million gift establishing merit-based scholarships for graduate students enrolled in the Global Human Development program within the School of Foreign Service with a preference for residents of sub-Saharan African countries. The fund also provides merit-based financial support for the living and travel expenses of a student, or students, during the Summer Field Project component of the program.

Charles A. Deacon (C’64, MA’69), dean of undergraduate admissions, stresses the significance of this key priority. “It is important for Georgetown to continue developing support for scholarships,” he said. “One of our goals is to create a larger pool of funds for international students, where the need is significant. Increasing our scholarship support for these students builds the opportunity for the university to play a greater role in the global community.”
