Title:Pavilion now serving the community

The Verstandig Pavilion at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital opened in late 2023 to meet the health care needs of the community, and provide School of Medicine and School of Nursing students with the opportunity to learn in an advanced and sophisticated health care environment.

The 477,000 square-foot building has been under construction since 2019. It stretches between the Leavey Center and St. Mary’s Hall, ending at Reservoir Road. Notable features include a new emergency department, 31 operating rooms, 156 private patient rooms, and a rooftop helipad. Most parking is now underground, allowing for more green space and pedestrian walkways for the entire Georgetown community to enjoy.

The pavilion is named after entrepreneur, venture capital investor, and philanthropist Grant Verstandig and the Verstandig Family Foundation, who made a historic $50 million gift to the project, one of the largest philanthropic gifts ever made to health care in the Washington, DC, region.
